L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan declared November 21st, 2000, "Los Angeles Music Awards Day." Now in it's 15th year, the organization is the longest running major awards show for independant artists in the country. It has major title sponsors and a television arrangement. For 2005, the event was held at the Music Box and Henry Fonda Theatre on November 9th. It was the most elaborate production in the history of the event. The accompanying Showcase Series continues to draw huge interest from artists not only in L.A., but all over the globe.

Created by Al Bowman, the Awards is designed to recognize independent labels and artists who are making a name for themselves in the national marketplace. In March of 1991, Bowman sat down at the Rainbow Bar & Grill with the legitimate Godfather of Rock n' Roll, Mr. Bill Gazzarri. On that fateful night, Gazzarri handed Bowman his famed white Fedora hat and gave him his personal blessing to go out and be the voice of independent music in Los Angeles. Gazzarri, who was only three days from his death on that memorable evening, expressed to Bowman his desire to see a more unified local music scene. When the first Los Angeles Music Awards took place on December 17th, 1991, it was dedicated to the memory of Bill Gazzarri. Each year since, the Godfather of Rock n' Roll receives accolades from the organization for his inspiration in making this yearly event a reality.

Al Bowman: "I loved your video. People are really talking about it."

John Lee: "I bet you say that about all the music videos."

Al Bowman: "No, really, that took a lot of guts, to say what you said. It really gets a reaction from people. Some violently reject it, but most stop and think about it. The lack of exhaust flame on takeoff from the moon really does prove the point that We Never Went to The Moon."
